DEBRIS

In this series, I explore the layered material history of Venice through fragments of stone and marble. Rather than idealized forms, I turn to the raw, weathered remnants of the city’s architectural past—materials that carry memory in their erosion, craftsmanship, and centuries of exposure.

Collected pieces such as Portoro marble, Istrian limestone, and Verde Alpe bear witness to Venice’s ongoing dialogue between nature and architecture. Sourced from sites including the Giardini of the Venice Biennale and the façade of the Accademia di Belle Arti, these fragments reveal stories of opulence, decay, and transformation: golden-veined marble evoking early 20th-century splendor, weathered slabs shaped by salt and air, and fractured stone marked by freeze-thaw cycles.

By isolating and presenting these remnants, I invite viewers to reflect on impermanence and the transient nature of human creations. This work bridges past and present, material and memory—underscoring the delicate balance between preservation and decay, and the cyclical force of time that reshapes both our landscapes and ourselves.
